Q: Replying to your question of my question to question of my Mash n Boil boiling hard enough to achieve a hot break. I do set the temp at 218F. The highest temp it cycles to is 211F. Is this normal?

A: Yes, it will only show 211 or 212 F, and lower temps at higher elevations. Water boils at 212 or lower, depending on elevation, so it will never show higher.

Q: I have two questions, #1 When I brew with more than 12 lbs of grain my efficiency is only 53%, less than 12 lbs its 63% more not the 70% Iam targeting for. Suggestions? #2 The max temp that my Masn N Brew gets to during the boil is cycling between 209F and 211F, enough for a boil but it dosent seem to be a sufficient for a Hot Break. Comments. Thank You.

A: Regarding question 1, vary the amount of strike and sparge water (different ratios). Also, make sure you grain is crushed on the coarse side, as a fine crush will lead to more clogging and less efficiency. Regarding question 2, are you setting the temperature to 217 F during the boil? If you set it for 212, it will cycle to 212, and then turn off and cool 5 degrees before turing on.

Q: I have heard some brewers pushing the limits on max amount of grains. The instructions indicate a max of 15 pounds. What is the reason for this number? What am I risking with a 17 or 18 pound grain bill. Thanks!

A: Overfilling the grain basket could cause it to overflow and clog the pump. We find the unit can handle up to 16 pounds.

Q: Can you use a Brew in Bag bag for mashing inside the basket? It seems that would lessen any clogging of the pump during re-circulation.

A: Yes you can.
