A: It works as long as it is below your brew kettle about a foot or so.

Q: It looks like the wort goes into the tube that is sticking straight out and the cold water goes into the line that is pointing inward. Is this correct?

A: Yes, the cold water goes in the outer hose jacket, accessed by the 90° angle hose barbs.
