Q: i understand that the heating element is not replaceable so how long is it expected to last

A: We have had a test unit for 2 years and it has not failed. Keep in mind the unit is set to shut off after 3.5 hours, which helps prevent accidently leaving the unit on and having the element burn out. It also has a dry cut off sensor, which shut the unit off immediately if it detects there is no water in the boiler.

Q: Is the heating element replaceable? Is there insulation between the walls of the vessel?

A: The heating element is not replaceable. There is no insulation other than air between the double walls.

Q: The Mash Basket has solid walls and you said there is about 1" clearance to the Boil Kettle, therefore there is about 1.5 gallons of mash water not exposed to the grains. Do you adjust your mash water to account for this?

A: We have posted the Mash & Boil manual in pdf form on our website. Go to our site and open this and look at page 3 of the manual for sparge water calculations.

Q: Would it be possible to convert this to a 220v element? Or is it all enclosed?

A: No, it is not possible to convert this to 220 volts, as the element is welded into the base of the unit.

Q: Can you use this for 2.5gal batches?

A: The gallon markers start at 4, so you will have to measure volumes. There is no reason why the Mash & Boil cannot be used for 2½ gallon batches.
