Great idea well executed.
Bought these backnuts to go with a few new valves I bought here at Williams. I love these right angle nuts - they do keep trub from settling inside the valve...but will siphon up some trub when the value is first opened. That's fine - I put the first few ounces that come out into a container I'll toss away...and the rest is trub free! I have these on all my brewing buckets. :)

Backnut is a good nut.
Bought a handful of them to replace my transfer valve standard backnuts. They work great. The backnut can be reused if a bucket is junked.

Nice product
I've been looking for something like this. I almost built one until I found this. Really nice hardware.

the invert tube pointed up left about 3" of beer (above the yuck). Is it supposed to be pointed down? I have an older Williams kit and the fermentation bucket hole is about 2.5" above bottom of bucket. Seems like a waste of beer.
Yes, it is designed to be pointed down. When pointed down and the valve is not opened, it stays dry and free of yeast sediment during the ferment, and then when you open the valve, it acts like a siphon tube very close to the sediment on the bottom of the fermenter.

Does this fit the 6 gallon Vintage plastic carboy?
No. The threads on the vintage shop valves are different.

Is the opening pointed vertically (12 o'clock)?
It is pointed where it ends up after tightening. It should be at 6 pm for proper use.
