Our American Light is mashed from the same Klages and Herrington two-row pale malt we sell to grain brewers. American Light is ideal when used as a pure malt base for a light flavored beer, or as a neutral base to build on when formulating darker beers.

Approximate SRM color value of 6 pounds of extract dissolved into 5 gallons of water before boiling: 5

Excellent base for a wide range of brewing styles

Pros: Very light, easy to increase the stength without darkening color.

Cons: Won't magically turn into beer. Pale ale malt may be better suited for some styles.

Tried of all grain mashing

Pros: Save time and ease of brewing with a quality base for most ales. Cons: It takes a little work to get all of it out of the pouch.

Excellent Extract for Ales. I like the light color. Great packaging, it is strong enough to soak in near boiling water to get all the product out.

Terrific for pale ales

I used this to brew an American Pale Ale and found it to be just right! This was perfect, wonderful flavor, and my pale ale was the best I'd ever made. I would absolutely use it again.

Great flavor!

Q: How much should I use in a 5 gallon batch to achieve 5% alcohol content?

A: The 6# pouch (Item M06) should get you around 5% ABV depending on the final gravity. The final gravity depends on how well your fermentation goes.
