Our Belgian Dark Strong has a velvety smoothness imparted by a large amount of dark Belgian Candi Syrup, Belgian Pilsner, and Belgian Wheat malts. Unlike a stout or porter style dark beer made with roasted malts, our Dark Strong is darkened with highly caramelized beet sugar syrup, which makes for a deceptively strong dark beer without a roasted character. Alcohol: 8%, IBU's 32.

Includes 13 pounds of our Belgian extract and Belgian Candi Syrup, flavoring and aromatic hops, liquid yeast, and corn sugar for carbonation. Makes 5 gallons with a starting gravity of at least 1.090. Click on the more info link above to see a picture of this beer in a glass.

This is an Advanced Kit: This kit is as strong as we can make it, and therefore requires a Secondary Fermenter, Yeast Starter Kit (Q26), and Oxygen Aeration System (S78) to successfully brew.

Save a lot of money. Belgian ales of this strength and quality sell for $8.00 and up per 24 ounce bottle in a liquor store. You can brew the equivalent of 24 twenty four ounce bottles of William's Dark Strong for well under $3.00 per bottle.

Full bodied, right hop balance

Review by John Vossler on 9/17/2014

This is my third batch of this excellent beer. Brewed in March and already gone on August. I will be ordering again very soon. This is a full bodied ale with the right (for me) hop balance to the hearth maltiness of any heavier beer. Easy to brew and an fantastic conversion if oxygenation is used. I use a simple air pump with filter and aeration stone. I highly recommend this kit.

Top of the Belgain hill

Review by Eric P on 9/15/2014

This is a serious brew that if properly caressed it will develop into an excellent drinker. Needs good aeration and lots of time to mellow out but well worth the wait. Suprisingly smooth and hides the alcohol well but packs a punch. Gave to several people who refuse to drink "dark beer" and it was soon the only thing that they wanted to drink. They kept asking for more! I had to hide the second keg for my own selfish needs.

From a Belgian drinker

Review by Bruce on 6/25/2014

This is another find brew from Williams. I have been a hardcore Belgian fan for several years now and this one is right up with the BEST of the store bought that I have had. The ABV is very well hidden and only recognizable by the warming that it gives and the effect on the brain if consumed fast. Gave a glass to my wife who told me to "get it out of the house" because it was dangerous to have on tap. Needless to say she loved it.

Belgian Dark Strong

Review by Crows Nest on 5/30/2014

This was my second batch, both were good. This beer definitely needs good aeration and should be pitched from a starter. Both batches had foam blow out of the airlock during primary fermentation. This second batch I also added a hint of yeast nutrient. Keg conditioning is in order to age properly.

Needs to age

Review by David on 5/28/2014

Brewed this 3/18/14 and bottled on 4/4/14. SG=1.098 and FG=1.031 Used starter and two step-ups on older yeast to get proper amount according to common calculators. Aerated with O2. Very fast start and good fermentation. Tasted 3 weeks after bottling to ensure beer had carbonation. Beer was very flavorful and tasty but needs to age. A minor concern is that it is a little on the sweet side. I expect that this should condition out in a few months and be ready for drinking in the fall.

Q: I don't see the spec for this kit other than the 1.090 stated in the description are they here and I'm not seeing them? If not what are they? Gravity, IBU, ABV, ect.

A: 1.090 refers to the estimated starting gravity. IBU's are approximately 25, and average alcohol 9% depending on final gravity. This kit is not currently available.
