Description

Now in its sixth generation, the U.S. made EZ-Stir Plate is the most powerful stir plate we sell, and will stir 1000 to 5000ml of starter solution.  This sturdy unit is 7.25" wide, and 1.5" tall, and will easily accomodate heavy 5000ml flasks. A 1" stir bar is included.

This unit has a 12 volt stir motor, which is controlled by a precision voltage regulator for speed adjustment. The RPMs of the drive motor are limited, so the motor will not “throw” the stir bar (unless you turn it up too high or move the starter once it has started), yet it provides enough to get a good vortex going. A low voltage, plug-in wall transformer provides power to the unit.  Instructions included.

Great value, but runs hot
Good little value stir plate. Be aware though that it seems to throw off heat which is absorbed into the starter. Starter was several degrees above ambient the whole time. Some is due to fermentation, sure. But not that much. I just chuck the whole set up in my temp controlled fermenter.

Broke quickly
This product broke down immediately upon using. I would not get it, rather try for a replacement.

William's Brewing Responds: We have not heard from you. Did you take advantage of the one year warranty?

works great
works as advertised, I've used it 4 times already and it runs for days with no problems. It can create a powerful vortex even with the 1" stir bar. (you don't need to do that for starters though, just for fun)

How many amps does it draw at 12V? Also, what are the dimensions of the DC jack? I'm asking because it would be much easier to plug it into my fermentation chamber's built in 12V DC power supply than rig up another 120V AC outlet in the fridge.
From the manufacturer: "The power supply is rated for 500 mA and has a 5.5mm X 2.1mm connector. I believe our motor only draws between 130mA – 300mA."
