Good Idea - Poor Execution
I loved the idea of thermometers for my igloo mashtun and hot liquor tank. I bought two of them. They kinda work but I would never use them to measure the precise temp of your mash. The calibration nut is right next to the tightening nut. If you turn them, on purpose of accident they lose their calibration a bit. They are good as a rough estimate but i would use a good thermometer to measure mash temp. Also, once you install them your stuck with them.

Poorly Designed Thermometer
I bought two of these, and couldn't use them. The calibration nut is actually on the stem itself, which makes it is virtually impossible to keep the thermometer calibrated once you start tightening the nut that goes inside the mash tun. As you tighten the inner nut the outer nut turns and ruins your calibration. Also, the small o-ring did not keep the mash tun from leaking. All in all, not a good product.

Brewers Edge Thermometers Work Well
I have two of these thermometers that I use to heat up water for mashing and for cooling the wort. They are dependable and accurate. I would recommend them to any novice brewer.

Didn't last as long as I hoped
Like the previous reviewer, I experienced inaccurate readings after only 5 batches though I did use it inside last thanksgiving's turkey. According to this thermometer, water now boils at 235 degrees and everything else measures about 20 hotter than what it should. The previous reviewer said his had the same issue and he used it for baking bread. Perhaps higher than boiling temps (ovens, etc) will cause this. Regardless, for a few bucks more why not go digital and get precise and easy to read measurements? Also, water seemed to have gotten behind the glass.
Not bad as an entry level but if you're looking to replace, go digital.

A good product
I respectfully suggest to the previous poster that he recalibrate his thermometer using the nut behind the dial housing. This type of instrument simply does not fail to the tune of 30°F (unless it is visibly broken). This is an excellent, cheap product that does the job of fancier thermometers 3x the price, and I have just ordered a new one. My only criticism is its fragility; a rubber cushion around the perimeter of the dial housing would help protect the glass when the thermometer is dropped onto a concrete floor (frequently in my case).
