Brown Malt was the only malt used in porter brewing in the early 19th century, before it was supplanted by pale ale malt, chocolate, and black patent. For porter, use up to 50% Brown Malt in the mash.

Great for northern english brown
Used this for making jamils northern English brown ale to replace the "special roast" which I couldn't find anywhere. The beer turned out fantastic and very much like Newcastle, I give much of the credit to this malt.
