Description

The 6 gallon Vintage Shop carboy features unbreakable PET construction, Made from BPA-free PET (polyethylene terephthalate copolymer) plastic. Unlike plastic waterbottles, this is an odorless and virtually impermeable plastic, which allows beer, mead, or wine to sit for several months in the carboy without worry about oxidation. Combines the barrier properties and visibility of glass, with the light weight and safety of unbreakable plastic. Easier to clean thoroughly than ribbed carboys.

Includes a spigot with high flow valve with a ½" tubing hose barb outlet. This spigot flows faster than competing PET carboy designs, and is easily installed and replaced by the included spigot tool (pictured). If you need tubing for your spigot, order our J16 ½" inner diameter tubing. Temperature safe to 120° F.

19 1/2” tall, 11” wide. Takes a #10 stopper and airlock (stopper and airlock not included).

Better than glass
One thing I like over the bucket is that I can see the fermentation. The one con is dry hopping is not as easy as with a bucket.

Better than a pail
Much better than the pails for fermenting. Easier to see what is going on, but a bit harder to clean.

Leaky Valve
After installing valve, I decided to check for leaks by filling it with water. After letting it sit for a few minutes, the valve started to drip where the handle rotates about the valve. Luckily I still had a leftover valve from my fermentation bucket that appears better made and did not leak after installing. If you buy this product, I would definitely check for leaks before using and have a backup ready!

basically the best plastic carboy for the money
I've bought glass carboys and plastic better bottle carboys but this simple carboy seems to be the easiest to use. I wouldn't even think of glass. Too heavy and a disaster waiting to happen.

No more siphon!
In addition to eliminating the need to autosiphon out of the carboy, the smooth sides make it easier to clean. I've had no problems with the port leaking, either. I'm seriously considering moving completely away from glass and into these.
